Here are 5 stocks in the Publishing industry ranked by performance. We compiled the trading activity from yesterday and then analyzed the industry looking for stocks that were underperforming. This is what we found:

The New York Times (NYSE:NYT) ranks first with a loss of 6.57%; Journal Communications (NYSE:JRN) ranks second with a loss of 4.66%; and Gannett (NYSE:GCI) ranks third with a loss of 3.79%.

Valassis Communications (NYSE:VCI) follows with a loss of 3.76% and Meredith (NYSE:MDP) rounds out the bottom five with a loss of 2.99%.

The New York Times Company, a diversified media company, conducts operations in newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, and electronic information and publishing. The Company's publications include The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and the International Herald Tribune.. New York Times also holds interests in a newsprint mill and a paper mill.
