Top 5 Performing Stocks in the S&P 500 (MON, MAR, GME, WDC, MA)

Below are the top five performing stocks in the S&P 500 INDEX,RTH. These companies should be watched for additional outperformance to the upside.

Monsanto (NYSE:MON) lead the charge up 3.76% today, well above the S&P 500's return of 0.56% thus far. Just behind are shares of Marriott International (NYSE:MAR), which is up 3.16%.

Rounding out the list of outperformers are shares of GameStop (NYSE:GME) and Western Digital (NYSE:WDC), which are up 3.03% and 2.88%, respectively. Finally we have MasterCard (NYSE: MA) up a respectable 2.87% on the day.

Monsanto Company provides agricultural products for farmers. The Company's business segments are seeds and genomics. Monsanto produces a wide range of seeds and develops biotechnology traits that assist farmers in controlling insects andweeds as well as provides other seed companies with genetic material and biotechnology traits for their seed brands.

Potential upside of 9.2% exists for Monsanto, based on a current level of $102.99 and analysts' average consensus price target of $112.45. The stock should discover initial support at its 50-day moving average (MA) of $101.87 and subsequent support at its 200-day MA of $91.18.
