The Chick-Fil-A debate continues to heat up as both sides of the controversy weigh in on the matter. Company president Dan Cathy's recent comments supporting the "biblical definition of the family unit" has sparked outrage among gay rights activists, politicians, and even business leaders.
One of those showing where he stands is Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos. He expressed his opposition to Cathy's remarks by personally donating $2.5 million to help pass a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington State. And he's not the only one. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has also given $100,000 to help the same referendum as well as executives from companies such as Xerox and PG&E.
The overwhelming support of gay rights from many businesses reveals companies are not concerned about losing customers from those who support Chick-Fil-A's stance. Groups and even city politicians in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York are threatening to boycott the chicken sandwich restaurant, something obviously other businesses believe won't come from the other side.
Regardlessly, there are still many other who support Cathy's views. Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee announced a "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day", taking place on August 1. It will be a day for people to go and support their local restaurant and the values the company stands for.
