Chicken wings, the tasty appetizer saved for game days and family gatherings, are now being sold in an unlikely place: McDonald's (NYSE:MCD). The fast food chain debuted its bone-in chicken wings in Atlanta on Friday calling the new menu item Mighty Wings.
The chicken is being sold in three, five and ten piece packs starting at $2.99. Dipping sauces for the wings include creamy ranch, spicy buffalo, and tangy barbecue.
However, this isn't the first time McDonald's has premiered this tasty snack. The Mighty Wings were a promotional item back in 1990 and had been sold in various locations until 2003 when it was discontinued.
The test of the new product might be a strategy to help McDonald's sales in the coming months. This past week the fast food chain announced its sales in July were flat, compared to a usual growth of over 2%.
