General Motors (NYSE:GM) announcing some changes in personnel. The company's global marketing chief Joel Ewanick has abruptly departed without warning. He was recently responsible for the decision to remove advertising from Facebook and to not buy an ad slot during the Super Bowl in 2013.

Those decisions were seen as controversial to many investors. But Ewanick had done some good things for the company including the development of the Assurance Program at Hyundai and improving the positioning of other GM branded models.

Spokesman for GM Greg Martin moved past these accomplishments though. He said that Ewanick, "failed to meet the expectations the company has for its employees." So far, it is unclear what the true reason is behind Ewanick's departure. For more on this story and analysis of the business world follow us on twitter @FNNOnline.
